| The £110 million emergency care centre at Foresterhill, Aberdeen, one of the most ambitious construction projects undertaken in the north east of Scotland, includes integrated systems comprising: nurse call, staff attack and bedhead trunking provided by Static Systems Group (SSG). |
| In a contract valued at almost £1m, SSG is installing equipment to eight of the floors encompassing A&E, acute medical assessment along with specialist areas such as cardiology, renal, respiratory, oncology, and many more. Before work got underway onsite, SSG’s project teams were involved in a number of pre-contract discussions with main contractor Robertson-Dawn Heath, sub contractor NG Bailey and other specialist trade contractors. Emerging from these discussions were the critical factors of logistics and the limited availability of onsite space for materials storage. | units being manufactured and assembled in a controlled environment at SSG’s factory before delivery to site. SSG’s project manager, Richard Kane, believes that this was a vital aspect to enable effective design and continuity within the contract programme. He said: “The initial planning enabled valuable input and ideas to emerge which are having a positive and lasting effect on the smooth running of a complex installation - the pre-assembly of bedhead trunking led to significant installation efficiencies. “The pre-start meetings helped us to take on board everyone’s views and expectations on what was needed. It was true ‘collaboration in action’. ” The project at Aberdeen uses SSG’s Modus bedhead trunking which predominantly comprises vertical flatwall units with services on both sides of the bed.
